Gloomy? Profound? Idealistic? Pity or self-pity?
These are some characteristics of a certain temperament. Welcome to the world of the melancholic.
You want to know what exactly characterizes the melancholic type? How exactly do melancholic
people think and feel? Which strengths and weaknesses are typical for them? How do you
identify them accurately? Melancholic derives from the Greek word melas,
which means ‘black’. A melancholic is of gloomy and profound nature. A melancholic has profundity and is often wistful.
Therefore, he or she gets to the bottom of things and tries to grasp them in all their depth. The two basic characteristics of the melancholic are: Being introverted and conflict seeking. This, amongst other things, leads to his or
her defence mechanism. Unbalanced melancholics react with complaining
or crying and are desperate, or they retreat. Some of the negative qualities of melancholic people can be self-doubt, pessimism, mistrust, pettiness, hesitancy or unforgiveness. Positive characteristics of the melancholic are idealism, loyalty, reliability and mental
clarity. Melancholic people are characterized by their
critical attitude. Therefore, they sometimes appear discouraging to other people, because they notice any mistakes and they want to correct them. In accordance to his basic nature, the constructive
quality of the melancholic is dedication. Due to their strong tendency to self-criticism,
melancholic persons are often hesitant and remain theorists and avoid any practical steps.
This self-critical attitude can have a destructive effect if it develops into a state of depression. Melancholics are good observers, and they occasionally seem shy or not sociable. Melancholic people are mainly motivated by
compassion or idealism. Sometimes they are also motivated by self-pity and are concerned
about themselves. Melancholics are often great idealists who
sincerely pursue an ideal. In the negative or unbalanced form, they can
also be arrogant, merciless or fanatic. Be sure to check out the other videos of this
