Real Time Easy Copic Colouring – Colour with ‘U’

February 27, 2020

Today I have some real-time easy Copic
coloring to share with you. Hi it’s Therese from Lostin paper and I’ve got
some real-time Copic coloring today I’ve stamped out this sweet owl with some
tuxedo black ink on some 80-pound Neenah and I’m colouring it with the W’s, starting with the W2 which is going to be my darkest
color here and adding where I think the shadows are going to be I’m using a
fairly light touch and adding more shade to one side of the image because that’s
it’ll give me kind of a lighter highlight on the image and that way it
doesn’t make it look like a circle if you can actually add the same amount of
shading on each side I think it looks more natural if you add more on one side
and less on another and that will just give you a little bit of an idea of
where the lights coming from not that it really matters
we’re just here having fun aren’t we! I’ve got my lighter color I’m using the
W0 and what I do is actually pick that up not right to the
edge of the image so I’ll leave some of the darker shade and just draw into
the draw the color and blend it into the center of the image and then I’ll come
back in with the W2 again and almost feather out the shaded areas again and
that just helps add just a little bit more depth because adding the lighter
color will actually lift the color off the image and sometimes you do need to
make sure that you have got enough darkness to make it look like you’ve got
a shade some people are a bit afraid to add the darker colors today I did want
to keep this fairly light and I could have brought the W4 in as well.
but I’m going to be putting this on a very busy background which I’ll share with
you in a minute So the limb of the tree I just put down
one layer of color and then I sort of wait for the ink the alcohol ink to dry
within the paper because if you add I want to add some shading using
the same color again but if I do it too quickly it’s almost like the papers too
wet and it will absorb too much so while that’s drying I’m coming back to my owl
image again and adding the details like the feet and the beak and just a little
bit of light it’s a T0. I like the toner grays, they’re not too cool but they’re
not as warm as the other one so it is a little bit different and I just added
that around the edges of the eyes very lightly it’s a really cute little set this.
And now what I’ve done here is I’ve got the same it’s E43 and this is a
great trick if you don’t have many Copic colors is to add the shading by using
the same color over top again so now it’s time to create my background and
I’m using the Concord & 9th lovely blossoms Turnaboutstamp I put my jig
in place within the Misti and now the newer turnabout stamps come with a guide
so it tells you which side to face the guide up and then all you need to do is
actually lay the stamp on top of the guide with the backside of the stamp
facing up and then you’ll see that it has a cross on the guide and a cross on
the jig and you just need to line those two up and then pick up the stamp with
the lid of the Misti it’s very easy it’s much easier I think my old jig that I
drew by myself was a little bit off and I never got there stamping perfect but
with this new system every time it’s absolutely perfect I love it there’s
also a guide where to set your cardstock so this is a cut four and a half by no
it’s four and a quarter by five and a half and it’s a hundred and ten pound
Neenah. and I’ve used some dotted adhesive on
the back of that and now I just want to stamp the four colors that I’ve chosen
because I want to do all four levels of the turnabout you can do as little or as
many as you want and I’ve got some Catherine Pooler inks today and starting
with the Bellini which is like one of my favorite colors because it’s kind of
orange but it’s also like a warmer color it’s really pretty and then I’m just
following the instructions on my turnabout has numbers up in the corner
so I’ve gone from number one to number two I am cleaning my stamp in between
I’m just using a chamois here and adding my second color which is the coral
Cabana another really beautiful color the Catherine Paula inks they’re on a
foam so you do have to tap really lightly to add the color so but because
I’m using the Misti if I do miss an area or I’m not happy with the way it stamped
I can actually come back in and restamp it so I’m not too stressed about
that and the third color here is party dress
which is a really pretty pink and my final color is It’s a Girl and that’s a
really pale pink and I think this combo was really sweet together and was going
to add a green but I changed my mind because I thought the light color of the
hour would look pretty on these colors so used my gum eraser to remove the
dotted adhesive off the back if you haven’t got one of these it’s one of the
best tools you’ll ever buy it’s like two dollars cheap as chips and it’ll last
you forever I’ve cut a rectangle hemstitch and this is the large one from
Spellbinders and I blame my friend Michelle and now
have two of these, the square one and the rectangle one and I need the I think
there’s a circle one they are awesome of fun because it just cuts a rectangle
with in your panel and leaves that little square holes all the way around
really fun I’ve created this beach bubble with the lawn fawn a birdie
told me stamp and die set and stamped a
sentiment from the same Gerda Steiner set and now I’m adding some hot pink
cardstock to the front of a top fold card and then I did consider adhering
this panel over top without popping it up but I really wanted those little the
square rectangle border to pop off the card but it would have been better to
see the pink andI I could have gone either way
to see the pink if I have attached it directly to the card front and I am
popping up my little images here because dimension is fun so lots of different
products today I had fun I’ve been wanting to color up these little owls
every time I think of my sister she’s a hoarder of anything owl related
so when I saw this stamp set I knew I had to get it so that I could
make a card for her so liked this video if you liked it and if you haven’t
already I love it if you’d subscribe to my youtube channel I always love your
visits here and I read each and every comment so I look forward to
seeing you here again next time Til then happy papercrafting

How sweet is this card? Absolutely delightful. The only item I already have is the Spellbinders Hemstitch Die (beat you to it, have all the shapes and I love them too), but I need to try this turnabout system. The background you have created is amazing and I need to try that technique. The little owl is a โ€œmust haveโ€ too! My shopping list just keeps growing! Thank you for another amazing video. Really appreciate the colouring tips and the techniques you provide. Iโ€™m always learning.

Hey Therese….this card is soooo sweet! Love the color combo you used for the background and it is one that I've recorded in my Crafty Journal. I seriously have to thank you for showing your Copic coloring in real time as it has helped me so much! By watching your 'real time' tutorials, I've figured out that I was oversaturating the paper as well as I was using too much pressure when coloring. You are now officially my Copic saviour LOL! Have yourself a wonderful day dear, and until next time….

  • Reply Carol Sze August 29, 2019 at 11:52 am

Cute owl. I find even with the new system for the turnabout stamps, itโ€™s just super easy to stamp on a 6×6 cardstock (or whatever the dimension of the stamp is) then trim down.
