PASSING TIME IN THE BARN // Versatile Horsemanship

January 15, 2020

come here over here she wants to be on
your shoulder she can do it
just just support your butt just support her but yeah she went she just wants to
be by you yeah she’s like I give up hello and welcome to another video if
you’re new here my name is brandi and this channel is all about horses and my
journey with horsemanship so if you’d like to follow my journey or learn more
about horses you can start by hitting that subscribe button
and don’t forget to turn on notifications so you never miss a video
today I’m not doing lessons but there’s a whole bunch of horses and riders in my
barn and I’m just kind of hanging out feeding horses my kids just got super
cold so they went the most and I wanted to show you a little something so I’m
going to turn the camera around so you can see this is Rosie and Rosie has a
tendency to want to kind of pull against the Rope a little bit so we’re what’s
doing what’s called ponying her ponying is when you’re riding a horse and
leading another horse and this is really good because Rosie’s used for smaller
children to ride and she’s frequently pony behind another horse
so back is riding Annabelle and she’s just getting Rosie some exercise and
giving her a little bit better at pony so this is super good for Rosie let’s
see there how she kind of pulls against right here you can see Rosie works a
little bit harder to speed up her feet and that puts some slack in there open
that’s exactly what we’re looking for we don’t ever want our horse to brace
against the lead rope this is a really great way to exercise two horses at once
it kind of gives the horse you’re riding a job to do this right there Rosie kind
of pulls against a little bit but we want to make sure that we don’t
give her any kind of a release until she comes forward it’s the same as when
we’re leading them you never want to drag them I’m not riding today
but my job is I get to be kitty you can’t have your butt in my face can we
have your nice end please yeah thank you and horses are pooping I’m walking
around picking it up there’s Sally she’s just hanging out tied in the arena Sally
right next to Daisy and then there’s let’s see one two three four five six
seven seven horses being ridden right now so it’s always nice to have somebody
be pooper-scooper because they make such a mess it’s really important that we
keep the arena clean horses poop on average eight to twelve times a day so
it’s inevitable that they’re gonna poop well they’re being ridden in the arena
arena Stan can get relatively expensive so we want to make sure we take as good
a care of it as we possibly can we’ve never had to completely replace it
but we do add new sand every couple of years and basically what happens is as
you walk around and pick up manure a little bit of sand gets thrown out with
the manure each time we use Mason sand in our arena it’s really clean and it
doesn’t produce a lot of dust we try to avoid riding through any piles of manure
so it’s easier to pick up and every rider is responsible for picking up
manure when they’re done riding during the warmer months we keep a wheelbarrow
in the corner of the arena and during winter we keep a sled in the corner it’s
really hard for us to push a wheelbarrow through the snow so having a sled makes
it a lot easier everyone who uses the arena takes turns dumping the manure in
the pile now if you notice over on the left side you’ll see Sally the mule and
Daisy the miniature horse and those two are just tied so they can kind of deal
with all the commotion that’s going on and it’s really good for their patience
both of them have had troubles with just standing still and kind of chilling out
so Sally used to get very nervous and what sort of pace back and forth and
Daisy likes to paw so for the two of them to be standing there as quiet as
they are and it just helps them really have a
quiet mind and a lot easier to work with my horses spend a lot of time being tied
so it’s really important to me that they’re good at it and that they’re okay
with it being able to stand quietly tied is a
really great way for them to prevent injuring themselves or injuring someone
around them there’s some proof that bears the instigator
so Mane’s are standing there minding his own business and bears just chewing on
us oh these boys are so fun to watch it’s kind of like they take turns
picking on each other they have so much fun pretty soon Mainzer is gonna be way
bigger than bear right now they weigh about the same I weed Mainzer when I
dewormed him a couple of weeks ago and he was 525 pounds
and I think bears about 550 hey there’s Sally never fails hi Sal and nowadays where fear has lessons he
didn’t have any lessons today but on the days where bear has lessons and he’s
pretty tired o Mainzer will follow him all over the pasture and berries like
I’m tired I need to just do nothing but before bear and he would kind of pick on
the minis and he’d pick on lucky just trying to get them to play and they’d
all play for a little bit but they kind of got tired of it but Mainzer loves to
play a bear so fun for them it’s two girls cute
standard rate in my way in onna she’s kind of a pain here to own
is this little buckskin in front of me she likes to play a little bit so the
Mayoress kind of get fed up with her because she kind of tries to get them
all going Pech was just annoyed it’s like leave me
alone I wish I could just have a camera on
them all the time it’s really fun to watch them play from the house they’ll
just play it and play it and play all day hi Sally you tour guys are interrupting
my bear and Mainzer video time Sally get your ears out of the screen he kissed just standing over there like
thank goodness it’s not me I would have put Mainzer Anika out with the herd so
much sooner if Mainzer hadn’t been injured if you’re
not familiar with Mainzer story you’ll want to check that out he had quite an
interesting he had quite an interesting start at life so check out his story in
my playlist I think everybody’s done playing now Oh crabby right there’s the definition of a crab
ass stinker Petra’s sitting there minding her own business and Sally
really is kind of the like lowest on the pecking order out here or lower on the
pecking order and it’s funny she tries real hard to move the other
horses around but it doesn’t work out for her but at least she tries this is how we do when they wait for
horses to finish eating well I hope you enjoyed this video if you did please be
sure to give it a like share it with your friends and don’t forget to hit
that subscribe button see you tomorrow yes bye that’s my trimming stool okay we have a
situation of a giant gray squirrel in the rafters of the arena I’ve been
watching this little sucker running around in the oak trees outside and now
it’s in my arena so hopefully it doesn’t get into well I worry about it chewing
on stuff making nests in my tack room eating the cat food hopefully it doesn’t
become friends with the cats because it’s about the size of a cat it’s
freaking huge and it was scaring one of the horses so
hopefully it doesn’t decide it’s gonna live in here

Most mornings I wake up to a cat sitting on my chest showing me a wonderful shot of his or her behind, such a lovely start to the day! I love sally's ears and the way they can move in different directions. I must say I love your conga. x

Manzer and Bear are good friends ! Sally is your guard dog 😀 The Kitty is so cute. Your squirrel looks huge.. Too big for the cats. He might feel safe and warm inside, perhaps attracted by the food but luckily it's not a big rat.

I’ve got a question. What is the purpose for a bit? I’ve never understood why it seemed necessary but I also know that I don’t really know what I’m talking about and I’m a little animal sensitive.

When good buddies are separated for a couple of years or more and are reunited, do they remember each other like elephants and some other animals do ? And do you find that they recognize their names ?

I love this kind of video. I'm with you, watching Bear and Manzer play is so interesting/relaxing. Also, Sally was really trying to have you to herself, giving Petra kicks and flat ears, in Sally's mind, I imagine. "This is my friend, Brandi, and I don't want to share her with either of you. Go away, nip, nip, go away, maybe a little kick will do the job I am shy and Brandi is my favorite friend, so Petra, Oona bug off." and so on. I have a quick question, is Oona the buckskin mare you picked up and trailer-ed through a city (while looking for your hotel) last year? If yes, then she has really grown up. Does that make her 3 now?

    Hi again Brandi!
Your videos are so great: the camera angles, the commentary and education given, the pure joy with happy horses and children.
So interesting to watch Mr. Manzer develop right from the beginning.
I think the cat's bottom is quite pretty haaaaa. And Stella of course, always on call to herd/ play/ protect as needed.
Annabel has a lovely smooth gait-perfect for a crotchety arthritic lady like me.
We used to have a large (neutered!) tabby cat Pushkin, who efficiently dispatched any size squirrel that ventured onto the property. I think your cats are too gentle for that!
Thanks again for a laugh-out-loud video on a grey January day!!!
