Jamelia: Why I’m voting for the very first time in my life

December 8, 2019

My name is Jamelia
I’m 38 years old and this is the first ever time that
I’m going to vote in any election I have had a very serious
experience with the NHS, my daughter stopped breathing for four
minutes when she was five days old. I didn’t have a clue what to do and if it wasn’t
for the NHS she would not be here today. On the 13th of December the day
after the election, she will be turning 2 and she’s alive because of the NHS and
because of the service and care she received. It’s so imperative that everyone has
the opportunity to have their lives saved, to have their health protected.
We’ve all taken advantage of the NHS and use the NHS and for it to be privatised
means that people will literally die. People like my daughter
may not have survived. We’re experiencing catastrophic times
and I am very concerned about our society, I’m concerned about our education and
I’m very concerned about our NHS. I am someone who has used all of those
services, utilised all of those services and been able to thrive and flourish
because of those services. I cannot possibly vote for
anything other than labour. I cannot possibly
vote for anyone who does not want to protect
the lives of UK citizens. My name’s Jamelia and if you want

A friend of mines father who is 85 and has dementia collapsed this morning. When the family tried to call an ambulance they were told it was not a priority as they had managed to get him back in bed. They were given this information based on him having had no assessment from any health professional.

This is a man who has worked all his life and has paid into the system, however when he needs the system to help him, it's not there!!!

This is no criticism AT ALL of the NHS staff and ambulance service who are doing their very best under unbelievable pressure. This is a symptom of systematic and intentional underfunding of our NHS and emergency services by this government.

Another five years of the Tories with Johnson at the helm genuinely fills me with dread.
Wake up people, vote Labour on Thursday and kick this wretched Tory government out!!!!

Sadly, another naive commentary based on an idealistic ideology rather than practicality.
By voting Labour, this ill read and ungratefully spoilt generation will forfeit their children's precious birthright under Magna Carta to personal sovereignty, to a parliamentary democracy, and also to Common Law.
It seems they truly want to be ruled as wage slaves by an wholly unaccountable neoliberal elite instead of having any personal control of their own lives. Good luck with that kids.

NHS is amazing so many lives saved. i had a motorbike accident at night in a rural area. i was found unconscious and convulsing with a head injury, ambulance motorbike paramedic (ironic) got to me first then transported by ambulance 2 hours to small cottage hospital and then transported 1 hour at high speed with police escort to hospital with ability to treat. was in medically induced coma and eventually regained all my function. without the NHS i would be dead FACT

Do you really base your decision to vote on what a pop singer says.
So you really want to vote for a jew hating, terrorist loving, marxist.

  • Reply Darren Christian December 8, 2019 at 3:58 pm

But isn't it the Liberal Democrats promising a 1% rise in income tax specifically to be ringfenced to help fund NHS and social care?

  • Reply Eric Ellis December 8, 2019 at 4:05 pm

It is important to get the vote out. Encourage your family and friends. Another 5 years of a Tory government to the right of Thatcher will be hell.

Thank you Jamelia! Let’s be positive about this election. Surely there can’t be so many people as the polls suggest who intend to vote against their own best interests! Imagine having a decent and compassionate prime minister. A fresh start for all of us ?
