Considering the Welsh language when planning

December 14, 2019

One of the first things we decided on when we were building the botanic garden twenty years ago, is that we weren’t going to translate everything from English to Welsh. We wanted to come up with interesting names in Welsh. in the first place. One example is instead of the word Broadwalk we called it ‘Llwybr Lliwiau’ (colourful path). Instead of biomass we called it ‘bio-mas’ y bac’ (biomass backyard) and that’s our policy in Botanic Gardens is to come up with names which mean something in Welsh, without having to translate from English.
